Assessment of Knowledge of Risk Factors and Prevention Strategies of Monkey Pox Among Secondary School Students in Odeda Local Government, Ogun State

Abstract

This study investigated knowledge of risk factors and prevention strategies of monkeypox among secondary school students in Odeda Local Government, Ogun State. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 250 secondary school students selected after stratification. A self-developed questionnaire was used and data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including frequency count, mean, standard deviation and Chi-square at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that the majority of participants had poor knowledge about monkeypox virus. Significant differences in knowledge were found based on gender, class and place of residence. The study recommended comprehensive education and training programmes on infectious disease prevention in schools and continued community-based campaigns with local health authorities and animal control agencies.
