Knowledge and Attitude Towards Genital Herpes Among Young Adults in Oluku Community
Abstract
This study investigated genital herpes knowledge among young adults in Oluku community in Edo State and the relationship of such information on their attitude and practice toward treatment and prevention. The study adopted descriptive cross-sectional design and snowball sampling technique. A sample size of 120 was used to cater for attrition and non-response. Data were collected using closed-ended questionnaire items. Findings showed that the majority of participants had high knowledge of genital herpes. Participants agreed that sexually transmitted infections such as genital herpes should be seriously avoided, sticking to one partner helps prevent herpes, anyone can be infected if preventive measures are not implemented and multiple sex partners increase the spread of STIs. The researchers recommended introducing courses in secondary schools to educate students about sexually transmitted diseases and healthy preventive decisions.
