Abstract

This paper examined health misinformation on social media, including contributory factors, consequences and possible solutions. Social media and online resources affect many aspects of life, and many people now use them to guide healthcare decisions. The proliferation of health misinformation on social media poses significant threats to public health. The unrestricted nature of social media allows rapid sharing of medical and healthcare information, often without robust and standardized modalities for verification. The paper recommended public health enlightenment and deliberate efforts by healthcare professionals and healthcare organizations, both local and international, to monitor and regulate the menace.
