Knowledge and Utilisation of Modern Contraceptives Among Female Primary School Teachers in Oredo Local Government, Edo State
Abstract
This study investigated knowledge and utilization of modern contraceptives among female primary school teachers in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. Specifically, it examined their knowledge of modern contraceptives, types used, and whether religious belief influenced usage. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population comprised 716 female primary school teachers, while the sample size was 214. Data were analysed using frequency counts and percentages, and independent sample chi-square tested hypotheses at 0.05 level. Findings showed significant influence of knowledge on use of some contraceptives, and that female condom, diaphragm and combined oral contraceptive were common types used. Religious affiliation significantly influenced use of some contraceptives. The study recommended educational campaigns and programmes to increase awareness about less commonly used contraceptives.
