Abstract

This paper discussed environmental health education as a tool for promoting sustainable development and forming attitudes toward maintaining a safer environment. It explained environmental health education as a process that provides opportunities for people to engage in environmental issues and take action to improve the environment. It justified its relevance in creating environmental literacy and respect for nature, enhancing effective and responsible decision-making, and identified major challenges of environmental health education in Nigeria. The paper recommended incorporating environmental health education into the secondary school curriculum and urged community members, health sector stakeholders and environmental health professionals to create awareness on keeping the environment safe for healthful living.
