Abstract

The study examined pre-eclampsia and maternal health in Benin metropolis. With three research questions and a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 200 respondents who were purposively selected via questionnaire. Findings confirmed that pre-eclampsia, marked by high blood pressure and proteinuria after 20 weeks of pregnancy, posed significant risks, leading to complications like preterm birth and maternal organ damage. The global prevalence of pre-eclampsia, especially in low- and middle-income countries, emphasizes the need for increased awareness, robust screening and better access to quality maternal care. Recommendations included implementation of prenatal screening protocols and strengthening healthcare systems.
