Abstract

This study examined stress level and emotional intelligence of female undergraduates in the University of Benin. Three research questions were analysed. The population comprised female undergraduates in the halls of residence, with a sample size of 160 students selected using simple random sampling. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection and analysed using percentages, mean and standard deviation. Test-retest reliability yielded Pearson Correlation Coefficient of 0.824. Results revealed that stress level and emotional intelligence can affect academic performance and that the higher the stress level, the lower the emotional intelligence. The study recommended curriculum plans to integrate practical strategies for developing emotional intelligence.
