Abstract
Effective teaching of Health Education in today’s world requires the availability of technological applications and programmes which may be lacking in most educational institutions due to series of factors. Its adoption will not only enhance teaching, but will also promote efficiency in the imparting Health knowledge. This study therefore, explored Artificial Intelligence (AI) for effective teaching of Health Education in Lagos State University of Education. It sourced for perspectives on AI’s academic benefits, the challenges to its implementation and strategies for successful application. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A sample of three hundred and thirty-five respondents were drawn from two thousand students. The sample size was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was modified, with a reliability coefficient of 0.86 for data collection on exploring respondents’ perceptions, challenges and recommendations related to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Two objectives, three research questions and one hypothesis were raised for the study. Data were analysed using mean and ANOVA at 0.05 level of significance. The result recorded a significant value of 0.002 compared at 0.05 level of significance with a df of 3, and an F-value of 156.032.Therefore, the hypothesis was rejected. The findings revealed that AI’s adoption for effective teaching of Health Education is been expected and will enhance effective teaching, as most lecturers and students are painstakingly getting used to it gradually, but not in terms of its ethical application and use. It was also observed that most applications are driven by individual interest and desire rather than institutional directives and policy formulations. However, several barriers to the use of AI were found including funding, resistance to technological change, and technical know-how. The development of policy frameworks and sponsorship training of educators for professional development among others was proposed as part of the recommendations.
