Artificial intelligence applications in school, community and environmental health education: Challenges and strategies
Challenges and strategies
Abstract
This review highlights the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, community engagement, and environmental health. AI enhances personalized learning, improves accessibility, and supports sustainable practices by enabling adaptive systems, intelligent tutoring, and real-time data analysis. In school settings, AI tools such as intelligent tutoring systems, automated assessments, and virtual assistants foster engagement and efficiency, though concerns about data privacy, ethical use, and digital divides persist. Community applications leverage AI for health literacy, targeted outreach, and resource optimisation, promoting active participation and better health outcomes, but challenges related to bias, equity, and ethical governance remain significant. In environmental health education, AI aids in data collection, risk prediction, and tailored awareness campaigns, empowering communities to address ecological risks proactively. Despite these benefits, implementation faces obstacles like data security, algorithmic bias, resource disparities, and regulatory gaps, which threaten to exacerbate existing inequalities. Strategies to maximize AI’s positive impact include personalized content delivery, capacity building, multidisciplinary collaboration, and ethical frameworks to ensure responsible deployment. Overall, AI holds great potential to revolutionize education and health promotion, but its success depends on addressing technical, ethical, and social challenges through inclusive, transparent, and well-regulated approaches. Continued research, stakeholder engagement, and policy innovation are essential to harness AI’s full benefits equitably and sustainably for society.
