Abstract

Human beings engage in occupations with hazards that predispose workers to illness and injury. This study examined the relationship between knowledge and practice of occupational safety measures among brewery workers in Ibadan and Ijebu-Ode Metropolis using descriptive survey research design. Proportionate and purposive sampling were used to select 501 respondents. Results showed no significant relationship between practice of safety measures and knowledge of occupational safety, and no significant relationship between practice of safety measures and knowledge of personal protective equipment. There was significant relationship between practice of safety measures and medical assessment, and between practice of safety measures and policy formulation/law enforcement. The study recommended that government should play a major role in workplace rules and enforcement, and that standards of protective equipment use should be reviewed continuously.
