Abstract

The major aim of this study was to know the implication of insecurity activities on mental health of Senior Secondary School students of riverine area of Ogun waterside local government of Ogun State. Insecurity could be refers to a state of unsafe feeling that is characterised by self-doubt and vulnerability. A descriptive research design was used for this study. Three hundred (300) Senior Secondary School students from four secondary schools that are closed to the lagoon were sampled with the use of simple random sampling techniques. The instrument used for this study was a self-structured questionnaire. Three (3) hypotheses were formulated, while chi-square (x^2) was used and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that insecurity has significant impact on mental health condition, poor academic performance and poor schools attendance in the study area. It was therefore recommended that there should be security education to prepare the mind of students to know much about intruders.
