An Investigation on the Implications of Child Abuse on Sports Development in Education District IV of Lagos State
Abstract
This study investigated the implication of child abuse on sports development among public junior and senior secondary school students in Lagos State. A descriptive research design and multi-stage sampling technique were employed. A 24-item structured questionnaire generated data from 3,000 student athletes in junior and senior secondary schools. Data analysis was based on students who participate in sports at grassroots or amateur levels and had experienced one form of abuse or another in sports. Results showed significant associations in emotional, physical, child neglect and sexual abuse, with serious negative implications for sports development among secondary school students.
