Impact of Investments in Sports Facilities and Infrastructure on Sports Development and Growth in Private Secondary Schools in Ethiope West Local Government Area Delta State

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of investments in sports facilities in private school settings in the promotion of sports participation and fitness among students in Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria. The study employed descriptive survey design. The population comprised private secondary school students, teachers and owners/managers. A self-structured close-ended questionnaire with reliability coefficient of 0.99 was used. Ten private secondary schools were selected and 480 participants were sampled. Findings revealed factors militating against private sector investments in sports and issues relating to sustainability. Recommendations included government grants and low-interest loans to encourage investment in sports facilities.
