Abstract

Flooding is one of the most occurring disasters globally and has accounted for deaths and loss of properties nationwide, especially in urban and populated cities like Lagos. School children face disruption in academic activities, time wastage and destruction of school properties due to recurrent flood, leading to loss of interest in school, panic and lower educational standard. Root causes such as human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, inequality and global demand pressure need urgent attention through scientific approaches and health education, including flood risk reduction, awareness, insurance, sanitation, sensitization programmes, collaboration among agencies, environmental enforcement and research.
