Influence of Community Health Education on the Promotion of Security and Wellness Among Residents of Warri Metropolis

Abstract

The level of peace, development and health enjoyed by community members depends on awareness, knowledge and consciousness of security maintained by people, especially youth in the community. This study examined the influence of community health education on the promotion of security and wellbeing among residents of Warri Metropolis, Delta State. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population comprised male and female residents from ages 20 years in Warri Metropolis. A sample of 150 respondents randomly selected from five areas participated. A structured questionnaire validated with reliability coefficient of 0.83 using test-retest method was used. Data were analysed through percentage and chi-square test. Results showed that community health education had significant influence on food security, social security, cyber security and well-being, and served as a significant strategy for promoting security and wellbeing. It was recommended that communities employ health educators to organize strategic training on security in homes, neighbourhoods and the community.
