Abstract

Stress is the body’s automatic response to any physical or mental pressure placed on it. It has become prevalent in our workplace and communities as contemporary life is full of hassles, targets, hindrances, and demands. The demands from everyday experience have increased stress in life which has negative consequences on human health and wellbeing in diverse ways. A deep concern for the way out of stress in workplaces and from the larger community motivated this paper, consequently stress and its effects on mental health and behavioural responses; as well as its management strategies were offered. Recommendations made include the creation of stress control and management units in work places and public enlightenment on the need for prevention and management of stress by government agencies.
